A tree in the house *
A tree in the house is a long-distance journey towards what is close by. It is a book that sheds its leaves; as some fall, others sprout. It is a treatise on plants, animals, people, cities, and fields—real, dreamed, or invented. It is what a hippie once said when someone asked him, "Where do you live?" "I have a tree that looks like a palace. I don't think I deserve it," he replied.
Some reviews
“Starting with its edition, Un árbol en la casa (A tree in the house) is a book that combines fantasy and precision, the result of the enthusiasm and seriousness practiced by its author, both in literature and architecture. It couldn't be any other way, as Óscar Blasco is a person of great integrity. Fantasy and precision! A magical combination of two elements that are difficult to bring together... and that, once united, need each other. The circle is complete.”
Jordi Garcés, professor and architect
“In your book, I have found a new way of observing our surroundings. I haven't read anything so beautiful in years. It truly makes you think. It has a sweet, melancholic, and magical touch. At the same time, every now and then, it steals a smile from you. Exquisite.”
Judit Ester, teacher
“The empty territory. The place where nothing happens. The space where everything could happen. Un árbol en la casa (A tree in the house) represents all those necessary possibilities. Each page starts from an uninhabited plot, from a void from which to create. Possible landscapes, incredible stories, strange architectures, or bizarre endings. Un árbol en la casa needs, demands, that not everything be in order. Only from there can one imagine. Sit down and take a walk.”
Clara Nubiola, artista urbana
“I have been reading the book for some time now, very slowly, savoring every line and traveling through this blend of worlds that you show on every page—worlds of diverse times, imaginative and real worlds, worlds of memories and desires—which have made me think, reflect, and have given me an intense and somewhat melancholic pleasure.”
Rosa Regás, writer
“Un árbol en la casa (A tree in the house) speaks of the magic of landscape: of how our way of life is inscribed in our environment and how the landscapes we frequent shape our lives. And all of this, not to provide heavy-handed solutions to supposed problems, but simply to invite careful reflection on what we do.”
Victor Ténez, architect and landscape architect
“Un árbol en la casa (A tree in the house) is an anthology of short stories with a unique and subtle narrative where the boundary between prose and poetry dissolves. The stories, seemingly simple, achieve an inner resonance that goes far beyond the mere observation of reality. The author explores the secret intimacy of characters, beings, and mundane objects, yet protagonists of enigmatic stories that recreate a deeply poetic and spiritual world.”
Imma Torné, editor
“There is ambition in the book, a clear sense of style, wit, irony, and a good use of ellipsis and narrative economy. I particularly liked, for example, ‘Grietas’ (Cracks), which describes a brutal drama in just twelve lines. I also quite enjoyed ‘Plaza’ and ‘Cipreses’ (Cypresses). Others left me cooler. I suppose it’s a matter of personal taste. In any case, I am certain that very soon you will capture the readers' attention.”
Carles Casajuana, diplomat and writer
“I am reading it now and for the moment what I like most is how, in an instant and with very few words, I am right inside the narrative, however short it may be. I find it fascinating.”
